Most people believe that habits are formed by completing a task for 21 days in a row. Twenty-one days of task completion, then voila, a habit is formed. Unfortunately, this could not be further from the truth. The 21-day myth began as a misinterpretation of Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s work on self-image.

Forbes 2013

We always think of the new year as a time to start something new. However many of us forget that we have 11 other months to create a habit or a change in our lives. We have 334 other days of the year to create a habit. Why do we settle for only using the first 31 days of the year?

You know what I’m talking about January 1 everybody’s in the gym it’s so packed you can barely find a machine but come February 1 none of those people are at the gym anymore! I am one of those people. I always say I can do this I’m going to do this and I fall off the bandwagon because I can’t create that habit.

We have to find people to hold us accountable for our actions and our goals. Just like with work, if we don’t show up our bosses call us, and if we missed too many days we lose our job. So why could we not apply the same attitude to creating a new habit in our life or breaking a bad one?
